Active safety technology has advanced hugely in recent years, and the Nissan ProPilot Assist system is leading the way. Here’s what the advanced package brings to your drive.
ProPilot Assist includes a wide range of features which intelligently monitor your driving and the vehicle’s surroundings, warning of potential problems and guiding you away from trouble. And when an emergency seems near, the system can take more proactive action such as braking to avoid an incident or reduce its severity.
And while it’s important to note that ProPilot isn’t a completely autonomous driving system and that the driver still needs to retain full attention and control, the range of features on offer can bring significant improvements to the safety of your everyday driving. Here are the nine key technologies you could enjoy in current Nissan vehicles.
1) Intelligent Cruise Control with Steer Assist
The cruise-control function automatically keeps a safe distance from the vehicle ahead, monitoring traffic flow to adjust your speed automatically while staying within a chosen limit. Nissan’s version of cruise control can even slow your vehicle to a halt in standing traffic, then automatically resume driving when conditions allow.
What’s more, the included steer-assist function works to keep you within your highway lane, even following curves in the road, guiding your steering without taking over full control.
2) Intelligent Distance Control
Intelligent distance control is similar to cruise control but adapted for city driving, paying close attention to the braking of the car ahead. If an abrupt slowdown is detected, ProPilot will automatically apply your Nissan’s brakes to keep a safe distance.
3) Forward Collision Warnings
The forward collision avoidance system monitors the movements of traffic up to two vehicles in front and warns if there’s a sudden slowdown, giving you more time to react.
4) Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection
If ProPilot detects an imminent collision with no time for you to heed warnings, it will automatically and immediately apply the brakes to help avoid an incident. The system continuously monitors the vehicle in front as well as pedestrians crossing into your path.
5) Intelligent Lane Intervention
If the lane intervention system detects sideways drift on the highway with no turn signals activated, it will send feedback to the steering wheel to help nudge you back into the centre of your lane.
6) Blind-Spot Warnings
Blind-spot alerts help to prevent risky lane changes by warning of any vehicles hidden off your Nissan’s rear flanks, guiding you back into the lane if necessary to prevent a collision.
7) Back-Up Intervention with Rear Cross-Traffic Alerts
Back-up intervention helps you reverse with confidence by warning of objects hidden directly behind or of vehicles approaching from the sides.
8) Around-View Monitor with Movement Detector
The around-view monitor helps you to park safely by using four cameras to give an overhead view of your Nissan and its surroundings. The system can also warn if objects are moving close to your car, so you can immediately react to changing conditions.
9) High Beam Assist
Lastly, high-beam assist turns on full headlight power when it’s needed for visibility, then reduces to low beam automatically to avoid dazzling oncoming drivers.
