A new Ram truck combines huge engine power with exceptional off-road qualities to create a heavy-duty champion. Here’s why the Ram 2500 HD Rebel is making such a splash.
Ram trucks enjoy a substantial lead in the North American off-road and performance pickup sectors, with the 1500 Rebel model setting a pace that other pickup makers are struggling to match. The company is now expanding its range with the 2023 Ram 2500 Heavy Duty Rebel, built from the ground up to offer unrivaled off-road abilities straight from the factory. Supplied with a choice of two powerful engines, the Rebel seems set to strengthen Ram’s market lead even further.

Gas or Diesel Engine Choice
As standard, the new 2500 HD Rebel is equipped with a 6.4L HEMI V8 gas engine pushing out a mighty 410 horsepower and 429lb-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive as standard. Alternatively, switching out to the available 6.7L Cummins turbo diesel mill drops the horsepower a little to 370, but boosts the torque to 850lb-ft. Not only is that torque a mammoth amount, but it also starts being delivered in quantity at revs as low as 1,700RPM, giving the 2500 Rebel an impressive amount of power and assertiveness even at low speeds.

High-End Capability
But beyond the raw engine specs, the measure of any truck is found in its capability figures, and this is where the 2500 HD Rebel really shines. Up to 1,424kg of cargo can be carried in the generously proportioned pickup bed, while the maximum towing capacity of 3,116kg means this Ram barely breaks a sweat when hauling the heaviest loads.
What’s more, choose the V8 gas engine, and you’ll also get the option of a factory-fitted winch at the front, rated at 5,443kg to expand the 2500 HD Rebel’s capabilities even further.

Off-Road From the Ground Up
Unlike many other trucks where the off-road features are add-ons to the basic model, the 2500 HD Rebel is built from the ground up to handle the toughest of trail terrains. Aggressive 33-inch off-road tires are supplied as standard, supported by an exclusive five-link coil suspension and available rear air suspension.
Skid plates protect the fuel tank and transfer case, giving extra confidence when traversing rocky surfaces, while a rear limited-slip differential and rear electronic locker ensure controlled handling when the going gets truly tough. Add all these features to the raw engine power and impressive towing capacity, and you’ve got a truck that’s a match for any environment and workhorse task.

Extensive Technology
Ram trucks are renowned for pairing the latest tech with their underlying power, and the 2500 HD Rebel goes further than ever in this area. A 12-inch frameless digital gauge cluster is standard, allowing customization of nearly two dozen menus displayed across five separate display tiles.
There’s also a generous amount of safety and driver-assist tech available, with highlights including adaptive cruise control, full-speed forward-collision warnings, lane-keep assist, and much more, making the Rebel as safe to drive as it is exciting.
