Cadillac vehicles are renowned for offering a level of quality that rises high above the competition, and the new 2023 Lyriq EV is no exception.
Blending eye-catching design, lush interior comfort, and high-end performance, this all-electric SUV brings the traditional Cadillac experience firmly into the modern day. Here’s what you can expect when the Lyriq hits Canadian highways in fall 2022.

Advanced All-Electric Powertrain
The Lyriq’s specifications had yet to be finalized by Cadillac in mid-summer, but from the details released at that time, the powertrain promises a mouthwatering prospect. The first models in the lineup will be rear-wheel drive only, with an all-wheel drive option following shortly after. Both options are based on the all-new Ultium battery platform which offers a combination of generous range, high power, and evenly balanced weight for expressive and controlled handling.
The initial rear-wheel drive models will be powered by a single electric motor delivering fully 340 horsepower and 325lb-ft of instant electric torque, pointing to explosive acceleration possibilities even with the entry-level vehicles.
However, the all-wheel drive models will take the powertrain specs even further. Dual electric motors will combine to produce a mammoth 500 horsepower, and while Cadillac hadn’t yet released the torque details, the estimated maximum towing capacity of 1,587kg suggests a figure that wouldn’t be out of place on a half-ton truck.

Driving Range and Charging
But no matter how powerful an EV’s performance, its everyday utility would be harmed by a low driving range and slow charging. Neither of these will be a problem with the Lyriq, however, according to the estimated figures from Cadillac. The rear-wheel drive model has an estimated range of 502km on a full battery, with 19.2 kW AC charging facilities adding up to 83km an hour. If you’re looking for a vehicle that combines searing performance with zero range anxiety, the Lyriq seems set to deliver.

Luxurious Interior
The Lyriq’s interior shows the clear benefits of a purely electric platform design when it comes to spacious comfort. With no engine to accommodate at the front, and no transmission tunnel running along the cabin’s floor, plenty of extra space is available for legroom, storage, and overall comfort compared to other SUVs of this size.
However, the most dramatic aspect of the Lyriq’s interior is the huge wraparound digital screen that dominates the dash. Spanning fully 33″ on the diagonal, the advanced LED display combines a configurable instrument cluster with infotainment functions at a level of clarity that’s genuinely breathtaking.

Advanced Safety Technology as Standard
The Lyriq’s selection of safety technology is equally impressive, with a wealth of features included on every model. Adaptive cruise control takes the stress out of highway driving by automatically maintaining a safe distance from other vehicles, and also features a following distance indicator for added reassurance. And if the standard cruise control isn’t enough, the available Super Cruise system offers a true hands-free driver assistance option including fully automated lane changes with turn signals and steering.
Collision avoidance systems abound. Forward and reverse emergency braking includes pedestrian detection, backed up by forward and sideways cyclist detection. Blind zone steering assist helps to avoid risky lane changes, while a rear camera and surround vision system provide high-definition coverage around the whole vehicle.
