J.D. Power Residual Value Award Winner (+video)

The 2022 survey, carried out by J.D. Power, evaluated the typical value of 274 Canadian vehicles when resold after four years.

As the winner in its class, the Bolt clearly has a level of features and quality to make it an attractive buy in the used market, but what makes it so special? Read our summary of the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV model to find out.

City-Friendly EV Powertrain

Not all electric vehicles need to be in the high-performance class, dazzling drivers with insane levels of acceleration and unrealistic top speeds. The Chevrolet Bolt is designed to be a perfect fit for everyday city and highway driving, offering plenty of power and agile performance while keeping recharging costs down.

The Bolt is based around a single electric motor that delivers 200 horsepower and 266lb-ft of torque to front-wheel drive, providing a high level of control and confidence for all styles of daily driving. A light touch on the accelerator pedal is enough for spritely moves through city traffic, while the sustained high output means highway passing is a breeze.

Battery, Charging, and Range

But a modern EV is about more than the raw output of the powertrain. Easy charging and a generous driving range are essential for everyday convenience, and this is where the Bolt EV really shines. The standard 65-kWh battery provides an official maximum range of 417km, ample for most daily commutes and errands.

But when you need to add more juice, the 2022 Bolt EV is as convenient as they come. Using the available 240V charging unit can fully load the battery in around seven hours, making overnight charging a convenient option. And if you need more range while out on the road, using a fast DC charging facility adds a generous 160km for every 30 minutes you’re hooked up.

Advanced Interior Tech

Beyond the EV powertrain, the Bolt is also equipped with an impressive amount of technology in the interior. A 10.2″ touchscreen display is used to access the infotainment features, which include wireless smartphone integration through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Wireless features continue with a cordless charging mat and a Wi-Fi hotspot facility, while a digital instrument display on the dashboard completes the high-end interior feel.

Active Safety and Driver Assist

The electronic safety systems supplied with the Bolt EV cover a wide range of collision prevention and driver assist technologies. Families with young drivers will appreciate the Teen Driver Profile option, which allows upper limits on driving speed, audio system volume, and more, selectable per driver to encourage good habits in those vital first few years of driving.

But there’s also a generous amount of more familiar safety features, with highlights including:

  • Forward collision warnings with pedestrian detection
  • Automated forward emergency braking
  • Lane departure warnings with keep assist
  • Blind spot monitoring system with rear cross-traffic warnings
  • Automatic high beams

Putting all these features together it’s no surprise that the Bolt EV retains so much of its value when it enters the pre-owned market. If you’re looking for the ideal city-friendly EV, the Chevrolet Bolt will make a sound long-term investment as well as an excellent daily drive.
